Q: I have a mauve pink jacuzzi tub, toilet, and sink in my master bath.  The floor tile is black & white speckle ceramic. I have white cabinetry with black counter tops. Should I go to the expense of completely replacing them?  Or just down play them in my next updated color scheme

A:  I take it you're not too fond of the mauve fixtures?

Having your permanent fixtures, like your bathtub and sink, in a color can seriously limit your color scheme options.

So, the first thing you need to ask yourself is... do you like pink? If the answer is no, then you're going to want to eventually replace them. But this is a major expense and if you don't have the money to do it... there are some things you can do.

When you choose your next color scheme, try to incorporate the pink as an accent color... but not the dominant color. A cool mint green on the walls will neutralize the pinks... and give the room a calming spa feel.

I would then use white accents to hide as much of the pink as you can. Get some nice fluffy white towels and drape one over the top of the toilet... drape another over the edge of the tub. Place large white candles on the tub and counter tops. I would then add some really nice white spa rugs to the floor.
