Q: I just downloaded your roman shade ebook and am reading it line by line. I am really a beginner with this. I have done some sewing - pillows, dust ruffles. I want to make a roman shade for a big window. The width is 70 inches and length 58. It is a slider so there is a 3 inch section of vinyl between two glass panes. It has to be an inside mount - my husband will not let me cover up his beautiful stained wood window trim. Should I make two shades? I would appreciate any advice you could give me. ~ Marjorie
A: I would make one roman shade. 70" is a wide shade, but believe it or not, it's not the widest. I've had people make them as wide as 120". So you're fine. I wouldn't make 2 roman shades, especially as a beginner. Two roman shades side by side can be a real pain. You have to make the match as far as pleats... you'll have a light gap where they meet... and they can sometimes interfere with each other when raising and lowering. Plus, from an aesthic point of view, having one large roman shade is nicer looking than 2 individual ones.
